Agility 4 SSD from OCZ announced, already in stock at $150!

http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/03/agility-4-ssd-ocz-announced-in-stock-at-150/

“SSD makers often try to wow us with raw MB/S, but OCZ is talking up “enterprise-level” reliability, ops per second, and throughput equally with its new SATA III 6Gbps Agility 4. The 64GB / 128GB / 256GB / 512GB drives — with Marvell-built Indilinx Everest 2 controllers — have middling max read/write throughput of 400 MB/s and 48,000 IOPS / 85,000 IOPS, respectively. But with Indilinx Ndurance 2.0 technology and no data compression, they claim that the NAND memory will last “well beyond” the manufacturer’s specs — without backing that up with actual figures. Prices seem steep at Amazon next to the competition, but could drop when they hit the streets in volume. So, if you’re after an all-rounder instead of a sprinter, check the PR after the break.

Dispatches from the birth of the Universe: sometimes science gets lucky!

http://feeds.arstechnica.com/~r/arstechnica/index/~3/md_8QpVUAzw/

“Timeline of the Universe—the expansion of the universe over most of its history has been relatively gradual. The notion that a rapid period “inflation” preceded the Big Bang expansion was first put forth 25 years ago.

NASA

For the generations that grew up with TV before the age of cable, the box in our living room was a time machine, capable of taking us back to just a few hundred thousand years after the birth of the Universe. We just didn’t realize it. Nor did the scientists that discovered this, at least at first. But luck seemed to play a large role in one of the biggest discoveries of our lifetime.

That may not have been the intended message of the discussion called “Dispatches from the Birth of the Universe,” hosted by the World Science Festival on Friday. The panel provided a good picture of our current state of knowledge on the birth of the Universe, and a glimpse at what we’ll likely find out next. But the history of the field turned out to be ripe with examples of things that were both hiding in plain sight (but required a bit of luck to spot), and others we’ve been lucky to see at all (well beyond the luck of being the right age to have seen the TV static).

Lawrence Krauss, who moderated the panel, introduced it by turning on an old TV set on stage. When turned to an empty channel, the TV displayed a familiar wall of static. About one percent of that noise, Krauss said, comes from the Universe itself, a remnant of an event that took place roughly 13.7 billion years ago. That’s when, 375,000 years after the Big Bang, the Universe finally cooled enough that protons could hang on to electrons, forming hydrogen atoms and emitting photons in the process. These photons, stretched out and cooled by the expansion of the Universe, have been with us ever since. And, with just a regular old TV set, you can capture some of them.

As part of our technolog…

As part of our technology shopping category we periodically recommend newly stumbled upon online eCommerce stores which we feel are beneficial to our readers due to their decent product range and pricing. Today, we are hitting up an accessories store for smart devices. Finding well-priced well made and reputable accessories for smart devices isn’t as easy as you may think. In general it isn’t the checkout system of websites that hinders your purchase of accessories, nor is it the lack of online stores, but rather finding actual high quality products that are genuinely worth the money asked of them is difficult. This is because companies for the most part over-value their products which otherwise should retail for an accessible price, whilst also offering a decent margin of profit for them. Now, shopping online is a very easy task for anybody and it is also easier than simply popping down to your local retail store (hence why the UK retail high street is doing pitifully at this time), and the one thing that the internet has going for it above all others is choice. Multiple different websites selling practically the same stuff as each other? Check. A healthy amount of competition from these stores further driving down the prices of products and creating massive bargains for consumers? Check. Security for your purchases? Check. The ability to shop on your smartphone, tablet, laptop and PC? Check. As you can already tell, and almost certainly from your own experience of searching for products on the web, the internet is littered with online stores offering products to consumers very often with freebies, goodies or free delivery thrown in as added buying incentives. The trouble with these kinds of stores however is that they generally have poor quality stock and use these measures to create a deal which in the eyes of the consumer is unmissable. Finding high quality stores which cut straight to the chase, then, is a shoppers wet dream isn’t it? Execspot Execspot is one such store fitting the high quality bill above. Offering accessories for smart devices (or in plain English accessories for your smartphone and tablet needs), Execspot has some extremely interesting products amongst their stock which stand out from the crowd and offer something a little bit different to the consumer. All the usual goodies are at Execspot including iPhone cases, iPad cases, Macbook accessories, Samsung accessories, Motorola accessories and other tablet accessories, however for us there are a few key picks amongst these products that you should hit up. These products include: – The Crux360 Clamshell Keyboard iPad Case, which offers up a rechargeable battery with up to 1000 hours of standby time. – The Adonit Keyboard iPad case, which features a beautiful aluminium keyboard design and three AAA’s as its power source. – The Doxie Go Scanner, which features the ability to scan photo’s or paperwork and sync over the air to your Apple devices. Overall and after a lot of time checking out Execspot this website appears to offer very solid smart accessories for a wide range of different devices. It also ticks a lot of the right boxes such as decent pricing, a simple to use online checkout system and the ability for real buyers of the website to post reviews of their experience, a key feature I always look for in a store as it backs up credibility of sales. If you would like to find out more about Execspot and hit up their product range, simply go to Execspot.co.uk. ©2012 Technology Blogged. All Rights Reserved..

Lasers projections and di…

Lasers projections and digital interfaces controlled without a standard touch interface have become a staple of the science fiction genre over the years. While it certainly wasn’t the first to make our mouths water, Minority Report provided us with some exceptionally awesome nerd candy in the form of high-tech computer interfaces. Several years ago, such technology would be nothing but the dreams of an imaginative mind. But now, we have come closer and closer to replicating such digital interfaces and the TK-PBL042BK Projection Keyboard by Elecom is just one of many reasons why. Compatible with iOS and Android operating systems and connecting via Bluetooth, it is primarily designed as a projection keyboard for cellular devices, but can also be used via USB for other non-Bluetooth enabled devices such as a notebook or computer. The projection keyboard itself is a small black box that projects the image of a keyboard onto a surface, which can then be manipulated like a real keyboard (except without actually pressing keys, but the light projected images of the keys). The box itself provides feedback to the device when fingers or other appendices break the projection on the surface. To further distinguish the TK-PBL042BK, it also has a mouse mode which operates in a similar fashion as a laptop’s touchpad.

“We wrote a few weeks back about the amazing artwork being done by the team at RGB+D. These hacker-slash-artists have combined Microsoft’s Kinect with a DSLR camera to create stunning photos and video that capture people through space and time in ways very different from a traditional film. The clip released today is a preview of a full length documentary featuring “hackers and media artists discussing culture, code and the future of visualization.” Check out the work by James George, Alexander Porter and Jonathan Minard below.
